Our Take

Strong middle-tier Delta card. The annual companion certificate alone covers the $350 fee for any couple flying domestic. Sky Club access at member rate is also better than nothing.

Travel & purchase protections

  • Trip Delay Insurance: when a round-trip is paid for entirely with the Card and a covered reason delays your trip more than 6 hours, certain additional expenses charged to the same Card can be reimbursed up to $300 per trip, with a maximum of 2 claims per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period (coverage provided by New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG Company; the $300 limit is the standard Amex tier, below the $500 Premium Cards tier carried by the Reserve Business)
  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance: when a round-trip is paid for entirely with the Card and a covered reason cancels or interrupts the trip, non-refundable travel expenses purchased with the same Card can be reimbursed up to $10,000 per trip and up to $20,000 per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period
  • Baggage Insurance Plan: when the entire fare for a Common Carrier Vehicle ticket (plane, train, ship, or bus) is purchased with the Card, baggage can be covered for lost, damaged, or stolen Baggage in excess of the common carrier's coverage, with up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage and up to $500 for checked baggage (this is the standard Amex Baggage Insurance Plan tier on the Platinum Business; the Reserve Business carries the higher $2,000 checked / $3,000 combined / $3,000 per-trip Premium tier)
  • Purchase Protection: charges of covered purchases on the Card can be protected for up to 90 days from the Covered Purchase date against theft or accidental damage, limited up to $1,000 per Covered Purchase and up to $50,000 per Card Member account per calendar year (the Platinum Business carries the standard Amex Purchase Protection tier; the Reserve Business carries the higher $10,000-per-purchase Premium tier)
  • Extended Warranty: extends the terms of the original U.S. manufacturer's warranty on Covered Purchases in the U.S., applicable to warranties of 5 years or less, with standard Amex per-claim and annual maximums
  • Cell Phone Protection: be reimbursed for the lesser of repair or replacement cost of a damaged or stolen cell phone, up to $800 per claim, with a $50 deductible per approved claim and up to 2 approved claims per 12-month period, when the cell phone line is listed on a wireless bill and the prior month's wireless bill was paid with the Eligible Card Account
  • Global Assist Hotline: 24/7 access to medical, legal, financial, and other select emergency coordination and assistance services when traveling more than 100 miles from home (third-party costs are paid by the cardholder; Amex's coordination service is complimentary; the Reserve Business steps up to the 'Premium Global Assist Hotline' tier which can cover emergency medical transportation at no cost if approved and coordinated by Premium Global Assist)
  • Dispute Resolution: if there is a fraudulent or incorrect charge on the statement, American Express works with the cardholder to help resolve the issue
