Chase Ultimate Rewards for Mexico

Chase UR for Mexico is mostly about Hyatt resorts. Andaz Mayakoba, Hyatt Ziva Cancun, plus United for flights.

For Chase Ultimate Rewards travelers headed to Mexico, the defining redemption is the World of Hyatt transfer for luxury resort nights. The Andaz Mayakoba sits in Category 6, pricing at 30,000 Hyatt points per night, and cash rates at that property routinely exceed $500 to $700 per night. At our 1.7¢ valuation for Chase UR, a 30,000-point transfer is nominally worth $510 in points. But when you redeem against a $650 cash rate, you are extracting closer to 2.2¢ per point, well above our baseline. That gap is where the strategic case for this program in Mexico actually lives.

Among the three transfer partners relevant to Mexico, Hyatt produces the highest CPP for most travelers who are targeting the resort corridor. United MileagePlus prices economy saver awards to Mexico at 17,500 miles each way, which is a workable redemption when cash fares run high, but domestic and near-international routes to Cancun or Los Cabos are frequently cheaper in cash, especially with budget carriers. a transfer partner prices business-class saver awards at 25,000 points each way to Mexico, and that math pencils out well on paper against premium cabin cash fares. All three partners transfer from Chase UR at a 1:1 ratio, so the decision comes down to which redemption actually clears the CPP hurdle relative to your specific cash alternative.

Availability reality is where travelers need to be careful. Hyatt standard room saver space at Category 6 properties like the Andaz Mayakoba and Hyatt Ziva Cancun does surface, but it is capacity-controlled and tends to thin out sharply during peak holiday windows, school breaks, and high-season weeks in December through April. Business-class saver space on a transfer partner for Mexico routes is similarly constrained; the math on a 25,000-point business award is attractive, but confirming saver inventory before transferring is non-negotiable. United saver economy space to Mexico exists more frequently on off-peak dates, though shoulder seasons and holiday blackout windows can limit what you find. Transfers from Chase UR are instant in most cases, but that speed is irrelevant if the space disappears before you can complete the booking.

The most common mistake Chase UR holders make for Mexico travel is defaulting to the Chase travel portal at 1.25¢ to 1.5¢ per point (or even the 1.5¢ rate available with the Sapphire Reserve) for mid-range hotels or flights that could simply be paid with cash at better effective value. Mexico is a largely cash-favorable destination below the luxury tier. A three-star hotel in Tulum at $120 per night should not absorb your points; paying cash and preserving your balance for a $600-per-night Hyatt category is the better discipline. Similarly, transferring to United for a $250 round-trip economy ticket to Cancun is a poor use of points that could otherwise anchor a five-night resort stay.

The second common error is transferring points speculatively before confirming award space. Because Hyatt, United, and a transfer partner all receive transfers instantly from Chase, some travelers move points assuming they can sort out availability afterward. Hyatt points cannot be transferred back to Chase UR, and neither can United miles or a transfer partner points. Once those points leave your Chase account, the transfer is permanent. The right sequence is to locate confirmed saver space at the property or on the route you want, verify the award can be held or is bookable, and only then initiate the transfer.

Find space first, then transfer.

Best redemptions

  • World of Hyatt 30k pts/night Andaz Mayakoba
  • United MileagePlus 17.5k pts each way to Mexico
  • a transfer partner 25k pts to Mexico business saver
Transfer ratios
1:1 to Hyatt, United, a transfer partner
Limitations: Mexico is mostly cash-favorable, points work best on high-end resorts where cash rates exceed $500/night.
