Key Benefits
All Benefits
- Welcome offer: 20,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 in net purchases within 90 days of account opening; at the standard 1 point = $0.01 cash redemption ratio this equals a $200 value bonus
- $0 annual fee for the life of the card with no monthly fee, no application fee, and no fee for additional authorized users on the account
- 3X points at restaurants and on food delivery purchases (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and other food delivery merchant codes); uncapped at the issuer's discretion with no quarterly or annual category spend ceiling published by Navy Federal
- 3X points at supermarkets including standalone grocery chains; superstore and warehouse-club grocery purchases (Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam's Club) typically code under their primary merchant category and earn 1X rather than 3X
- 3X points on gas station purchases (standalone gas chains such as Shell, Exxon, Chevron, BP) and on transit including rideshare (Uber, Lyft), taxis, subway, commuter rail, ferries, parking, and tolls per the Amex transit merchant category codes
- 1X points on all other eligible net purchases with no spending cap, no enrollment requirement, and no quarterly activation; everything outside the 3X categories earns the flat base rate
- Points never expire as long as the More Rewards account remains open and in good standing; there is no annual or lifetime cap on the total number of points you can earn or hold in your rewards balance
- Points redeem at a 1:1 cash equivalent (1 point = $0.01) for cash back as a statement credit or deposit, gift cards from participating retailers, travel bookings through the Navy Federal rewards portal, and brand-name merchandise from the rewards catalog
- Member Deals shopping portal can boost earnings to up to 15 points (or 15% cash back) per dollar spent at participating retailers when you click through the Navy Federal rewards site before purchasing
- No foreign transaction fees on purchases made outside the United States or in a foreign currency, which is meaningful on a $0 annual fee card and makes the More Rewards a viable travel companion for international trips
- No balance transfer fees and no cash advance fees - Navy Federal historically waives both on most consumer credit cards, which is unusual since competing issuers typically charge 3% to 5% balance transfer fees and 3% to 5% cash advance fees
- Purchase APR and balance transfer APR: variable between 14.15% and 18.00% based on creditworthiness (rate capped at 18% per federal credit union regulation), which is materially lower than the 25% to 30% rates common on major bank rewards cards
- American Express network benefits via the Amex Benefits platform: up to 30% off select hotel bookings through Booking.com, presale and exclusive access to concert/sports/theater tickets via the Amex Entertainment platform, and Amex Offers targeted statement-credit promotions
- Up to 25% off car rentals with major rental companies worldwide booked through the Navy Federal car rental program (phone: 1-877-754-9670) including Hertz, Avis, Budget, and other major partners
- Car Rental Loss & Damage Insurance: coverage against damage to or loss of a rental automobile rented in the US or Canada when you pay with the More Rewards Card and decline the rental company's CDW (claims: 1-866-643-6873, worldwide collect 312-935-9241, available 24/7)
- Roadside assistance benefit including towing and transport if your car becomes unusable during travel, vehicle replacement while your car is being repaired, replacement driver if you become medically unfit to drive on a trip, and continuation of journey or return-home transportation
- Tap to Pay contactless EMV chip card with support for Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay; mobile wallet provisioning is available immediately on approval through the Navy Federal mobile banking app
- Zero Liability Policy: you are not held responsible for unauthorized transactions made with your card or account information; 24/7 fraud monitoring with text, email, and phone alerts on suspicious activity
- 24/7 US-based member service team for the card; Navy Federal has been ranked #1 in customer service among credit card issuers in Forrester's customer experience survey and recognized by Time Magazine as a top US credit card provider
- Prequalification tool available for existing Navy Federal members through the online banking portal that runs a soft pull and does not affect your credit score; prequalification does not guarantee approval since debt-to-income ratio and other underwriting factors apply at full application
- Membership eligibility required: applicants must be a Navy Federal Credit Union member, which is open to all branches of the armed forces (active, reserve, veteran, retired), Department of Defense civilians and contractors, US government employees assigned to DoD installations, and immediate family members and household members of any eligible person
- Issued on the American Express network rather than Visa or Mastercard - acceptance is strong in the US but weaker than Visa/Mastercard at small merchants and internationally; Costco US no longer accepts Amex, and some grocery chains have intermittent Amex acceptance issues
- Compared to NFCU's cashRewards Visa Signature (1.75% flat cash back when paired with direct deposit) and Flagship Rewards Visa Signature ($49 AF, 3X travel, 2X everything else), the More Rewards card is the best fit for members whose dining + grocery + gas + transit spend dominates their wallet
- Transfer partners: Not offered - More Rewards points are an in-house redemption currency only and cannot be transferred to any airline frequent flyer program or hotel loyalty program; no Navy Federal credit card has transferable points to airline or hotel partners
- Airport lounge access (Priority Pass, Centurion Lounge, Delta Sky Club, Capital One Lounge, etc.): Not offered - this is a $0 annual fee card and lounge access is not part of the benefit package on any Navy Federal credit card product
- Annual travel credit, dining credit, hotel credit, streaming credit, or other recurring statement credits: Not offered - the More Rewards card has no annual credits to offset spending on specific merchant categories
- Global Entry / TSA PreCheck application fee statement credit: Not offered - members seeking a trusted-traveler credit must look to premium travel cards from other issuers since no Navy Federal card currently reimburses Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees
- Trip Cancellation Insurance, Trip Interruption Insurance, Trip Delay Insurance, Baggage Delay coverage, Lost Luggage Reimbursement, and Travel Accident Insurance: Not offered as cardmember benefits on the More Rewards Amex (these are reserved for premium Visa Signature and Visa Infinite products at NFCU and other issuers)
- Cell phone protection (coverage when you pay your monthly cell bill with the card): Not offered on the More Rewards Card; the Wells Fargo Active Cash, Chase Freedom Flex, and US Bank Altitude Connect offer cell phone protection at the same $0 to low annual fee tier
- Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty, and Return Protection on items bought with the card: Not offered on the More Rewards Amex; these were standard on older American Express network cards but Navy Federal does not include them on the current generation of the product
- Elite hotel status (Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, IHG One Rewards) and elite airline status: Not offered - this is a cash-back-style rewards card with no co-brand or status partnership with any hotel or airline loyalty program
