Earn a $250 cash back bonus after spending $500 in the first 3 months.

Our Take

The best no-fee cash back card in the Chase family. Stack it with a Sapphire and your cash back converts into transferable Ultimate Rewards points, a free upgrade most people miss. Note: Cell phone protection is on Freedom Flex, not Freedom Unlimited.

Key Benefits

  • 1.5% everywhere
  • 5% on travel via Chase
  • 3% dining + drugstores
  • Free if paired with Sapphire

All Benefits

  • New cardmember welcome offer: earn a $200 cash back bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening (offer is unavailable to existing Freedom Unlimited cardmembers and to previous cardmembers who received a new cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months, per Chase's pricing and terms)
  • $0 annual fee on the primary card and on authorized users (Chase does not charge an annual fee on Freedom Unlimited)
  • 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Travel (the Chase Travel portal; rate is automatic with no activation and no cap on this category)
  • 3% cash back on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services (no annual cap on this category)
  • 3% cash back on drugstore purchases (no annual cap on this category)
  • 1.5% unlimited cash back on all other purchases with no spending caps and no rotating categories
  • 2% cash back on Lyft rides booked through the Lyft app through 09/30/2027 (this is 0.5% incremental on top of the base 1.5% all-other-purchases rate)
  • Rotating quarterly bonus categories: Not offered on Freedom Unlimited (the 5% rotating quarterly category structure with the $1,500 quarterly cap belongs to Chase Freedom Flex, not Freedom Unlimited; per Chase's product pages the two cards have different earning structures)
  • Cash back is technically earned as Ultimate Rewards points at 1 cent per point and can be redeemed for statement credit, direct deposit to most U.S. checking and savings accounts, gift cards, Apple products via Chase, Pay With Points at Amazon.com, or travel through Chase Travel at a flat 1 cent per point baseline; rewards do not expire as long as the account remains open, but all unredeemed rewards are immediately forfeited if the account is closed
  • Ultimate Rewards transfer partners (1:1) and Points Boost on Chase Travel: Not offered with the Freedom Unlimited alone; you must combine the Freedom Unlimited with a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Business Preferred to convert cash back into transferable Ultimate Rewards points and access the 1:1 transfer partner program (per One Mile at a Time, this pairing 'is probably the best card combo you can have' for Chase)
  • 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on both purchases and balance transfers; after the intro period a variable APR of 18.24% to 27.74% applies (rates as listed on the Chase product page on 2026-05-22)
  • Balance transfer fee: intro fee of $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer (whichever is greater) on transfers made within 60 days of account opening; after that, $5 or 5% of each transfer (whichever is greater), per Chase pricing and terms
  • Complimentary 6 months of DashPass membership (covers both DoorDash and Caviar) when activated by 12/31/2027; after the 6-month complimentary period the membership auto-renews at the then-current monthly DashPass rate plus applicable tax until you cancel
  • Up to $10 off per quarter on a single non-restaurant DoorDash order while enrolled in the Freedom Unlimited DashPass benefit (no rollover; if you do not use the full $10 on one qualifying order the remaining value is forfeited)
  • Foreign transaction fees: 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars (Bankrate confirms the 3% Foreign Exchange Fee on Freedom Unlimited; this is a key difference from Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve, which charge $0 foreign transaction fees, and a reason Freedom Unlimited is a poor choice for purchases made outside the United States)
  • Purchase Protection: covers eligible new purchases for 120 days from the date of purchase against damage or theft, up to $500 per claim (Chase notes a specific limitation for New York residents: the coverage period is 90 days from the date of purchase)
  • Extended Warranty Protection: extends the time period of the manufacturer's U.S. warranty by an additional year on eligible warranties of three years or less, up to four years from the date of purchase
  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance: reimbursement of up to $1,500 per covered traveler and $6,000 per trip for pre-paid, non-refundable passenger fares when a trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather, or other covered situations (this is significantly lower than the Sapphire Preferred limits of $10,000 per traveler / $20,000 per trip, but it is offered on Freedom Unlimited per the Chase product page)
  • Auto Rental Coverage: secondary collision damage waiver when you decline the rental company's collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to the card (Chase's product page lists Auto Rental Coverage on Freedom Unlimited but it is secondary, not primary; primary CDW is reserved for Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve)
  • Travel and Emergency Assistance Services: legal and medical referrals and access to other travel and emergency assistance services while traveling away from home (the cardholder is responsible for the cost of any goods or services obtained)
  • 24/7 Fraud Monitoring: Chase monitors your account for unusual purchases and will text, email, or call you if suspected fraud is detected
  • Zero Liability Protection: you will not be held responsible for unauthorized charges made with your card or account information (does not apply to use of an account by an authorized user)
  • Chase Pay Over Time: eligible cardmembers can break up qualifying purchases of $100 or more into fixed monthly payments at a fixed APR with no separate origination fee, viewable in Chase online banking; also includes free Chase Credit Journey credit score and identity monitoring at no cost
  • Mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) and contactless tap-to-pay support; authorized users may be added at no additional annual fee and earn rewards into the primary cardmember's account
  • Cell Phone Protection: Not offered on Chase Freedom Unlimited (Chase explicitly lists Cell Phone Protection on the Freedom Flex product page but not on Freedom Unlimited; this is a key benefit difference between the two sister cards)
  • Trip Delay Reimbursement, Baggage Delay Insurance, Lost Luggage Reimbursement, and Travel Accident Insurance: Not offered on Chase Freedom Unlimited (Chase does not list any of these four travel insurance benefits on the Freedom Unlimited product page; they are reserved for Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve, which include trip delay reimbursement up to $500 per traveler, baggage delay $100/day for 5 days, lost luggage reimbursement, and travel accident insurance)
  • Lounge access, Priority Pass, Sapphire Lounge access, elite status, Global Entry / TSA PreCheck application credit, and annual travel credits: Not offered on Chase Freedom Unlimited (this is a $0 annual fee cashback card, so these premium travel perks are reserved for Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, and other premium Chase products)
  • Concierge service: Not offered on Chase Freedom Unlimited as a complimentary Visa Infinite-tier benefit (Freedom Unlimited is issued on the Visa Platinum / Visa Signature tier depending on credit line, not Visa Infinite, so it does not include the Visa Infinite Concierge)
