The granddaddy of premium cards with Centurion Lounge access, hotel elite status, and a mountain of credits. The $895 fee stings, but if you use even half the credits, you come out ahead.

  • Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance up to $10,000 per trip and up to $20,000 per Card Account per consecutive 12-month period for prepaid, non-refundable common carrier travel charged to the card and canceled or cut short due to covered reasons
  • Trip delay insurance up to $500 per covered trip for delays of more than 6 hours, capped at 2 covered trips per Card Account in any consecutive 12-month period (round trip must be charged to the Platinum Card)
  • Baggage insurance up to $2,000 per covered person for checked baggage and up to $3,000 per person per trip for carry-on, plus High-Risk Items coverage up to $1,000 per person per trip ($2,000 for New York residents), with a $3,000 combined per-person cap and a $10,000 per-trip overall cap (the full common carrier ticket must be on the Platinum Card)
  • Premium Car Rental Protection (opt-in): a flat $12.25 to $24.95 per rental period charged to the Platinum Card provides primary coverage up to $100,000 in damage or theft with a 42-consecutive-day maximum rental; the default no-cost Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance is secondary to other insurance
  • Cell phone protection up to $800 per claim with a $50 deductible, up to 2 approved claims per Card Account per 12-month period, covering damage or theft (lost phones and cosmetic damage excluded); the monthly wireless bill must be paid with the Platinum Card and coverage begins the first day of the calendar month after the first eligible payment
  • Purchase protection up to $10,000 per occurrence and up to $50,000 per Card Account per calendar year against accidental damage, theft, or loss for eligible items purchased with the Platinum Card within the first 90 days from the date of purchase
  • Extended warranty: extends eligible U.S. manufacturer warranties of 5 years or less by up to one additional year, capped at $10,000 per item and $50,000 per Card Account per calendar year
  • Return protection: if a U.S. merchant won't accept a return within 90 days of purchase, Amex refunds the purchase price up to $300 per item, less shipping and handling, capped at $1,000 per Card Account per calendar year (still listed as a Platinum benefit at the time of the 2025 refresh)
  • Premium Global Assist Hotline: 24/7 medical, legal, financial, and translation referrals plus medical transportation coordination when traveling 100+ miles from home (cardholder pays third-party costs; coordination is free)
