Earn 90,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first 6 months.

Our Take

The companion certificate alone usually covers the annual fee on a single trip. If you fly Delta domestically at least once a year with a partner, this is worth it.

Key Benefits

  • Companion certificate annually
  • 3x on Delta + hotels
  • Free checked bag
  • Main Cabin 1 priority

All Benefits

  • $350 annual fee (current post-2024 refresh fee tier; raised from the prior $250 fee when the card was repositioned alongside the rest of the Delta SkyMiles American Express lineup); the '$350 Annual Fee' caption appears in the American Express product page header for the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card
  • Welcome offer: earn 90,000 bonus Delta SkyMiles after spending $4,000 in purchases on the new Card in the first 6 months of Card Membership (current public 'as high as' offer on the American Express product and application pages; welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer)
  • Some applicants see an elevated targeted welcome offer that pairs the 90,000 bonus miles with a Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD) bonus (commonly 10,000-20,000 MQDs); these MQD-bonus offers are not always live and are issued via CardMatch and targeted Amex emails rather than the standard public application page
  • Earn 3 miles per dollar on eligible purchases made directly with Delta (including Delta-marketed flights, Delta Vacations packages, Delta in-flight purchases, and other Delta-coded transactions)
  • Earn 3 miles per dollar on eligible purchases made directly with hotels (this is the differentiating earn category that the no-annual-fee Delta SkyMiles Blue and the Delta SkyMiles Gold do not offer at this tier)
  • Earn 2 miles per dollar at restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery in the U.S.
  • Earn 2 miles per dollar at U.S. supermarkets
  • Combined 2x dining + 2x U.S. supermarket bonus is capped at $50,000 in eligible purchases per calendar year (above $50,000 these categories earn the base 1x rate; the cap is documented in the American Express benefit terms for the refreshed Delta SkyMiles Platinum card)
  • Earn 1 mile per dollar on all other eligible purchases on the Card
  • Annual Companion Certificate after Card renewal: receive a Companion Certificate each year after Card renewal for a Delta Main Cabin round-trip flight in the 48 contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, the Caribbean, or Central America; the Companion ticket requires payment of government-imposed taxes and fees between $22 and $250 for itineraries with up to four flight segments, and Delta Basic experiences are not eligible (the certificate frequently delivers $300+ in face value on transcontinental Main Cabin pairs and is widely cited as the single benefit that justifies the annual fee for a once-a-year traveling couple)
  • Up to $120 Resy Credit annually: earn up to $10 per month in statement credits on eligible Resy purchases at participating U.S. Resy restaurants when you pay with the enrolled Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card (enrollment required; the credit does not roll over month to month, so unused months are forfeited)
  • Up to $120 Rideshare Credit annually: earn up to $10 back each month in statement credits after you use the enrolled Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card to pay for eligible U.S. rideshare purchases with select providers (enrollment required; the Amex product page positions this as 'up to $120 back annually' with the same monthly structure)
  • Up to $150 Delta Stays Credit annually: receive an annual statement credit of up to $150 after using the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card to book prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays on delta.com (the Personal Platinum tier sits below the Reserve's $200 Delta Stays credit and the Reserve Business's $200 Delta Stays credit)
  • MQD Headstart: receive $2,500 in Medallion Qualification Dollars each Medallion Qualification Year automatically, providing a head start toward Silver Medallion status ($5,000 MQDs)
  • MQD Boost: earn $1 MQD for each $20 of eligible purchases on the Card in a calendar year, accelerating progress toward Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallion status the following Medallion Year (the Personal Platinum boost rate matches the Personal Gold rate and is half the Personal Reserve's faster $1 per $10 rate)
  • Status Boost reference: Delta's elite Medallion program is MQD-only as of 2024 (legacy Medallion Qualification Miles and Medallion Qualification Segments were retired); the Platinum contributes to Medallion qualification via MQD Headstart and MQD Boost rather than legacy MQM accruals
  • Take 15% Off Award Travel (TakeOff 15): Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Members save 15% when using miles to book Award Travel on Delta-operated flights via delta.com and the Fly Delta app; the discount is reflected automatically at booking and does not apply to partner-operated flights or to taxes and fees
  • First checked bag free on Delta-operated flights worldwide for the cardholder and up to 8 travel companions on the same reservation when the Card is used to pay the fare (Amex's standard family-of-four example markets the benefit as up to $280 in round-trip baggage savings, and the Platinum extends the perk to as many as 8 companions per reservation)
  • Main Cabin 1 priority boarding on Delta-operated flights (TPG, NerdWallet, and other third-party press also describe this as 'Zone 5 Priority Boarding'), so the cardholder boards earlier and has a better chance at overhead bin space
  • 20% savings on eligible Delta in-flight purchases (food, beverages, and audio headsets) on Delta-operated flights, refunded as a statement credit on the Card used for the purchase
  • Complimentary Upgrade priority: if you are not a Medallion Member, Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Members on an eligible ticket are added to the Complimentary Upgrade list after Delta SkyMiles Medallion Members and Reserve Card Members; if you are a Medallion Member, your Medallion tier still drives upgrade order while the Card improves sub-tier positioning
  • No foreign transaction fees on purchases made outside the United States with the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card (a critical feature for international Delta and Delta partner itineraries)
  • Trip Delay Insurance: when a round-trip is paid for entirely with the Card and a covered reason delays your trip more than 6 hours, certain additional expenses charged to the same Card can be reimbursed up to $300 per trip, with a maximum of 2 claims per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period (coverage underwritten by New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG Company; this is the standard Amex tier, below the Reserve's $500 Premium tier)
  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance: when a round-trip is paid for entirely with the Card and a covered reason cancels or interrupts the trip, non-refundable travel expenses purchased with the same Card can be reimbursed up to $10,000 per trip and up to $20,000 per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period
  • Baggage Insurance Plan: when the entire fare for a Common Carrier Vehicle ticket (plane, train, ship, or bus) is purchased with the Card, baggage can be covered for lost, damaged, or stolen baggage in excess of the common carrier's coverage, up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage and up to $500 for checked baggage (standard Amex tier on the Platinum personal card; the Reserve carries the higher Premium tier)
  • Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance: when you use the Card to reserve and pay for the entire rental and decline the rental company's collision damage waiver (CDW) at the counter, you can be covered for damage to or theft of a rental vehicle in a Covered Territory; coverage is secondary in the cardholder's country of residence (so it pays after the cardholder's personal auto policy) and does not include liability coverage; Australia, Italy, and New Zealand are excluded, and not all vehicle types or rentals are covered
  • Purchase Protection: charges of covered purchases on the Card can be protected for up to 90 days from the Covered Purchase date against theft or accidental damage, limited up to $1,000 per Covered Purchase and up to $50,000 per Card Member account per calendar year
  • Extended Warranty: extends the terms of the original U.S. manufacturer's warranty on Covered Purchases in the U.S., applicable to warranties of 5 years or less, with standard Amex per-claim and annual maximums
  • Global Assist Hotline: 24/7 access to medical, legal, financial, and other select emergency coordination and assistance services when traveling more than 100 miles from home (third-party costs paid by the cardholder; Amex's coordination service is complimentary; the Reserve steps up to the 'Premium Global Assist Hotline' tier which can cover emergency medical transportation at no cost when approved and coordinated by Premium Global Assist)
  • Amex Offers and American Express Experiences: enroll in targeted Amex Offers for statement credits and bonus miles at travel, dining, and retail merchants, plus access to American Express Experiences (presale tickets, cardholder-only events, and Resy Global Dining Access)
  • Pay Over Time and Plan It flexibility: eligible Card Members can move charges to a separate balance with interest (Pay Over Time), or split eligible purchases of $100 or more into fixed monthly payments with a fixed monthly fee and no interest (Plan It)
  • Membership Rewards points are NOT earned on the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card; the card earns Delta SkyMiles directly, and SkyMiles cannot be transferred to other airline frequent flyer programs (the relationship is one-way: Amex Membership Rewards transfers to SkyMiles at 1:1, but Delta-co-branded cards do not earn MR)
  • Not offered: Delta Sky Club access (the Personal Platinum does not include Sky Club lounge access at any spend level; Sky Club access on a Delta personal card requires the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card, and pay-per-visit access at $50/visit was retired in 2024). Also not offered: Centurion Lounge access, hotel elite status, TSA PreCheck/Global Entry application fee credit, and the broader Amex Platinum travel-credit ecosystem (those benefits belong to the unrelated Amex Platinum Card from American Express, not the Delta SkyMiles Platinum)
