Ritz-Carlton Maldives Fari Islands

Newer Ritz-Carlton in the Fari Islands archipelago. Adults-only over-water villas and a kids-club tower.

All hotel properties

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives Fari Islands sits in the northern Fari Islands archipelago, a newer entry in Marriott Bonvoy's LUX portfolio that has quickly become one of the more compelling Category 8 redemptions in the program. The property blends adults-only overwater villas with a dedicated kids-club tower, which is an unusual configuration for the Maldives, but the points angle is straightforward: a Marriott Bonvoy Category 8 LUX property priced at saver rates against some of the highest cash rack rates in the Indian Ocean.

At the 100,000-point saver rate, this property returns exceptional value relative to most Bonvoy redemptions. Cash rates routinely exceed $2,500 per night for an overwater villa, which prices this redemption at roughly 2.5 cents per point (CPP) or better on saver nights. That clears our conservative Marriott Bonvoy valuation by a meaningful margin. The top (peak) rate climbs to 130,000 points per night, so if your travel dates fall in peak season (typically December through April, the dry season), you should model those higher award costs before committing. The fifth night free benefit for Bonvoy redemptions applies here: a five-night stay at saver pricing runs 400,000 points rather than 500,000.

On the transfer side, all three major flexible currencies move into Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio: American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Points. Because Bonvoy points do not expire while your account is active and transfers from bank programs are instant in most cases, there is no urgency to move points speculatively. The Chase UR transfer is particularly clean if you are holding a large balance, though our 2.0¢ valuation for Chase UR means you are giving up real optionality on those points, so confirm your dates and award availability before initiating any transfer. AmEx occasionally runs transfer bonuses to Marriott Bonvoy; check the current transfer bonus page before moving points, as even a 20 to 30 percent bonus can materially reduce your cost per night.

The most important watch-out at Fari Islands is peak-season pricing escalation and the structure of Bonvoy's dynamic LUX award pricing. While the saver floor is 100,000 points, actual pricing during the December to April high season may price closer to or at the 130,000-point peak level. Book your award as early as the 13-month Bonvoy award booking window allows if you are targeting January or February travel. One genuine positive that sets this property apart from most Maldives resorts: the speedboat transfer from Malé (approximately 45 minutes) is included in your stay, eliminating the seaplane surcharge that can add $500 or more per person round-trip at other properties. That savings is real cash value that should factor into your total redemption math.

Because award inventory at LUX properties is capacity-controlled and not guaranteed at any price point, confirm room availability on the Marriott Bonvoy calendar before moving any bank points. Book the refundable award room first, then structure flights around those confirmed dates. Find space first, then transfer.
