Papeete (Tahiti) with points

Tahiti is the gateway to Bora Bora and its own destination. Flying Blue 50k Promo Rewards floor on AF/Tahiti Nui (dynamic, verify live). AAdvantage 80k partner business on Air Tahiti Nui LAX-PPT. Delta SkyMiles dynamic.

All destinations

Papeete sits at a rare convergence of award-program sweet spots. Air Tahiti Nui (the home carrier, code TN) partners with American Airlines AAdvantage, and that partnership prices the Los Angeles to Papeete business-class saver at 80,000 AAdvantage miles one-way. That is one of the few remaining fixed-rate partner-business awards on a long-haul transpacific routing, which matters in an era when most programs have migrated to dynamic pricing. Flying Blue, Air France's program, also prices Air France and Air Tahiti Nui business awards on a promotional basis (the so-called "Promo Rewards" flash sales that have historically floored as low as 50,000 Flying Blue miles one-way), though that figure is dynamic and must be verified against live availability before any transfer. Delta SkyMiles prices the same routing dynamically, meaning the number moves with demand and is often higher than either of those benchmarks.

On the airfare side, the most predictable math runs through AAdvantage. If you hold Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, or Citi ThankYou points, none of those programs transfers directly to AAdvantage, so you would need a native AAdvantage balance or a co-brand card earn. Amex transfers to Flying Blue at 1:1, and Chase UR transfers to Flying Blue at 1:1 as well, which makes Flying Blue the practical bridge for flexible-currency holders targeting Air France metal or Air Tahiti Nui codeshares. At our 1.5 cents per point conservative valuation for Flying Blue miles, a 50,000-mile Promo Reward in business class can approach $750 in value against cash fares that routinely exceed $3,000 to $4,500 one-way. But Promo Reward space is time-limited, capacity-controlled, and releases irregularly. Transfer only after confirming seats are held or at minimum verified live in the booking engine.

For hotels, the clearest points story in Papeete is the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa, which prices at approximately 50,000 IHG One Rewards points on a standard night. IHG points transfer from Chase UR at 1:1, and with rewardztravel.com's conservative Chase UR valuation of 2.0 cents per point, that 50,000-point night represents $1,000 in transferred value against cash rates that can exceed that figure during peak season. The Hilton Tahiti and Le Tahiti by Pearl Resorts also serve Papeete, though Hilton's on-island footprint is more limited and Pearl Resorts is not part of a major transferable-currency ecosystem, which reduces its points-and-miles flexibility. For most flexible-currency holders, the InterContinental is the dominant choice on pure redemption math.

Seasonality matters significantly here. The dry season runs May through October, with lower humidity, less rainfall, and the most predictable flying conditions. Award availability, particularly in business class, tends to compress as that window approaches. Air Tahiti Nui and Air France operate limited frequencies into PPT, and premium cabin inventory is small to begin with. Searching 6 to 9 months out for peak dry-season dates gives the widest view of available space; closer in, saver seats in business class on these routes often disappear entirely or reappear as last-minute inventory that is difficult to count on.

The correct sequence is to secure the hotel first, using a cancellable rate where possible at the InterContinental or Hilton, and then pursue the airline award. IHG's standard cancellation windows give meaningful flexibility, and locking in a refundable hotel reservation before committing irreversible miles to a flight transfer is the only rational approach when award airline space is this constrained. Once you see confirmed business-class saver space in the booking engine (not just a search result), then transfer points to whichever program prices that specific itinerary best on that date. Find space first, then transfer.
